Know the Sounds of the Alaskan Wilderness
The animal sounds you hear on this website are not here to scare you — they are here to prepare you. Knowing what animal is making these prehistoric sounds gives you the split second advantage you need to get your camera ready and capture a once in a lifetime photograph that will stay with you forever. These elusive animals do not show themselves often, but when they do you have to be ready at all times. You may only get a 5 second window to get the shot — so know your sounds, know your camera, and be ready.
🐻 Brown Bear The brown bear sound you hear is the bear letting you know he is there. This is his territory and he wants you to know it. Stay calm, do not run, and get your camera ready.
🐺 Alpha Male Wolf The wolf call you hear is an alpha male calling out to his pack — gathering them together to head out on the hunt for the night. One of the rarest and most powerful sounds in all of Alaska.
🦅 Loon Bird — Wail Call The loon wail call is the bird announcing his presence and claiming his area on the water. One of the most hauntingly beautiful sounds in the natural world and a signature sound of the Alaskan wilderness.
Witness the Majesty of the Alaskan Wild
Step into our prehistoric setting through a gallery of brown bears, moose, and caribou, captured in the heart of Alaska’s untouched Game Management Units.
Connect with Staff and Guests in Any Language
We pride ourselves on being a global destination. To ensure seamless communication during your stay, we recommend all non-English speaking guests download a translation app before arrival. This allows you to speak directly into your phone and share text in real-time with our staff and other guests, ensuring your needs are always understood.
We recommend these two free translation apps — both support voice to text in over 140 languages:
MUAMA Enence Instant Two-Way Translator
Unlike phone apps, the MUAMA Enence is a dedicated handheld translator device that requires no internet connection — making it perfect for remote Alaskan wilderness where cell service is unavailable. It supports instant two-way translation so you and our staff can communicate naturally and effortlessly in real time, no matter what language you speak.
We highly recommend every non-English speaking guest purchase their own MUAMA Enence device before arrival. The lodge has a limited number of units available on site, but we cannot guarantee availability for all guests.
What Our Guests Are Saying
Our guests come from all over the world to experience the untouched wilderness of Iliamna Lake. We are proud to share their stories. Real guest reviews coming soon — we are just getting started for the 2026/2027 season and cannot wait to hear from our first guests.
I have fished all over Alaska over the past 20 years and nothing comes close to this experience. The GPS boats made it incredibly easy to find the best spots on Iliamna Lake, and the salmon runs were absolutely insane. Scott and his team took care of everything — the cabins were private, clean, and comfortable.
As an international guest flying in from Germany, I was a little nervous about a fully self-guided lodge. But the website explained everything perfectly and the setup at the lodge made it so easy. The floatplane fly-out to Brooks Falls was the highlight of my life — watching brown bears catch salmon right in front of us was unbelievable.
Our group of four booked the full week and every single day was better than the last. The aluminum boats were ready to go every morning and the pre-loaded GPS fishing locations saved us so much time. The Friday night barbecue on the deck with the loons calling across the lake is something. If you are serious about fishing in Alaska, this is the place.
I came for the King Salmon and left with so much more. The Kvichak River fly-out was one of the most incredible fishing experiences of my life — millions of sockeye pushing through the river. The lodge itself is perfectly set up for a self-guided trip.
I booked this trip as a solo traveler and felt completely safe and well taken care of the entire week. The electric bear fence around the property gave me real peace of mind, and the Starlink Wi-Fi meant I could check in with family back home whenever I wanted.
Scott has thought of everything — from the GPS boats to the bear fence to the floatplane fly-outs. My hunting trip in Unit 17 was everything I hoped for and the lodge was the perfect base of operations. I will be back without a doubt.
